History

The SciFair and CyberCiv programs and many of the exhibit worlds were developed by SciCentr, an outreach program at Cornell University that ran from 1998 - 2009. The SciCentr program was headed by Margaret Corbit. Suzanne Kolodziej served as the Education Coordinator and Rich Bernstein was the Tech Coordinator. Catherine Norton-Barker, EDUni-NY Virtual Worlds Coordinator, was the SciCentr Program Manager.

Countless university students in roles ranging from designers to summer program instructors to online mentors were valuable members of the team. Approximately 20 Cornell students worked for SciCentr each semester. SciCentr also provided internship opportunities for high school students who contributed just as much as they learned along the way.

When the SciCentr program was closed by Cornell University in June 2009, the ActiveWorlds universe and license, the worlds, programs and all associated content transferred to the Greater Southern Tier BOCES. EDUni-NY was born on July 1, 2009.

We gratefully acknowledge the contributions of the SciCentr team at Cornell University for paving the way for EDUni-NY.
